Benefits of a Sunroom

When you add a sunroom to your home, you are adding additional square footage to the home and increasing the livable space as the room is able to be heated and cooled, which in turn adds value to your home and allows you to get more out of your living space. Many people add a sunroom to open the home up and provide a room with a view.  A new sunroom provides a view unlike any other room in the home,  as it lets in light and allows you to enjoy the breathtaking rays of morning sunrises, while also providing the end of the day serenity as you enjoy the beautiful sunsets in the evening.  With your new sunroom, you can enjoy the outdoors from inside and not have to worry about insects, weather or what time of year it is.

What options do I have in terms of styles or sunroom models?

When it comes to sunrooms there are a lot of different options to choose from in terms of styles or models.  At Hometown Contractors, Inc. we custom build our sunrooms based on our customers wants and needs, we don't install a "kit room" or just add an "aluminum box" on the back of your home.  What that means is, we have an experienced design consultant come to your home and provide a complimentary property survey to determine that a sunroom is permissible on your property.  Next, we work with the homeowner to create a custom sunroom design that is right for you.

This consists of measuring and drawing a detailed diagram including slab foundation, wall system type, window and door orientation, roof design and any other additional options that may be included.  The most common sunrooms styles we build here in NW Florida are Cathedral Sunrooms (also known as Gable Sunrooms) and Studio Sunrooms.  Most homeowners want the sunroom to blend in with the main home as much as possible, so often times that means using brick for the knee-wall and/or installing shingles on the roof instead of using the typical aluminum knee-wall and roof system.

What qualities should the client look for in choosing a sunroom contractor?

Choosing the right contractor to build a new sunroom is the most important decision of the entire process.  When investing thousands of dollars, regardless of the project, it is important to do your research on the contractor you are considering.  I recommend researching any company before allowing them to come to your home.

Of course, you want to make sure they are properly licensed and insured and in good standings with the Better Business Bureau, but also make sure they have been in business for 10 years or longer so if you have a problem in the future they will be around to fix it.  If you visit the company website they should have at least one or two links to independent third party customer reviews.  Hometown Contractors, Inc. has over 70 reviews (click the Home Advisor logo or the GuildQuality logo located upper right corner of each page) from homeowners that have used Hometown Contractors, Inc.

Any parting advice?

Research who you are considering and ask a lot of questions.  A good company should be able to answer all your questions and provide exactly what the scope of work will consist of and who will be doing the work (employees or subcontractors).  If you are considering a sunroom or patio room of any type, call Hometown Contractors, Inc. and ask for a FREE design consultation, or fill in this short estimate form and we'll contact you.
